OUR STORY
SINCE 1965

It all began in 1965, when Francesco and Nicola Turano decided to undertake the production of fresh meat and cured meats in a historic municipality along the Esaro Valley, San Marco Argentano (Cosenza), between the Sila, the Pollino and the Tyrrhenian Sea. Today the group is managed with the same passion and commitment by Francesco’s sons, Gennaro and Leonardo, who look to the future by combining experience and tradition with modernity and innovation.

The Family

Despite having become a large industrial group, Bongenus continues to have the same soul and family spirit as always. For this reason, each product, from meat to cured meats, is carefully selected and processed with the same care you would have if you were preparing it for your own family.

Tradition

We are proud to have inherited the ancient recipes and processing techniques handed down to us from our rural tradition and to have made them even more perfect thanks to the continuous search for excellence. This has allowed us to create products that respect gastronomic culture and are appreciated by all our customers. Our goal is to ensure that every bite of meat or cured meat that comes from our company tells the story and the passion that we put into every phase of the production process.

Animal well-being

Our meats and cured meats come from animals of certified breed and origin, raised with the utmost attention to their health and the habitat in which they grow, thanks to careful and constant veterinary surveillance, and the adoption of cutting-edge breeding solutions and compliance with rigorous protocols. In addition to representing an ethical issue, the well-being of the animals that live on our own farms and those of those associated with the supply chain is also a certainty of quality and food safety.

Safety & reliability

We are able to guarantee maximum hygiene and healthiness of our products, in line with European and national regulations on food safety, thanks to scrupulous attention to detail, constant training of staff and our quality control managers, . With the commercial partners and associates of our supply chain we share the same mission: to operate in an ethical

The company’s vision is broad and ambitious, with the aim of making the quality of made in Italy meats and cured meats prepared according to Calabrian tradition known throughout the world. We also turn our attention to the foreign target because we are convinced that our philosophy, made of passion, quality and sustainability, can find favor with customers and partners from all over the world.

For us, modernity means first and foremost safety and respect for consumer health. The constant search for increasingly innovative solutions, from the selection of raw materials to processing, up to the packaging and distribution of products, allows us to continuously improve our production, while continuing to keep faith with the Italian gastronomic tradition.

Environmental Susteinability

For many years we have been committed to minimizing the environmental pollution of our activities and acting according to the principles of the circular economy: everything is used and recycled. The electricity, hot water and steam used in our factories come from the photovoltaic and solar thermal system installed on the roofs. Aware that companies require extra effort, we are committed to becoming a zero impact company by 2023.
